Sea Stack House
Perched on a forested coastal knoll above the Pacific, the landscape for Sea Stack House bridges two generations of architecture through a series of outdoor rooms shaped by restraint, craft, and a deep respect for the site. Positioned between the expressive geometry of the original Wave House and the quiet modernity of its new companion, the design creates a shared landscape that feels timeless and rooted in place.
At the heart of the composition is a mature cherry tree, once constrained by stone and pavement and now liberated to anchor a flowing courtyard between the two homes. Board-formed concrete, bluestone, and weathering steel establish a durable material palette that will weather gracefully in the coastal climate, while broad terraces, carefully placed steps, and winding pathways reveal framed views of forest, sea, and sky.
Working within the existing topography and among mature Sitka spruce, the landscape extends outward like layers of exposed rock, creating sheltered gathering spaces that feel inseparable from the land itself.
Ground Workshop is proud to have partnered with CBTwo Architects and Cellar Ridge Construction on this project.
