Airport Heights Park is an 11-acre community park in North Bend, Oregon envisioned as the Coos Bay–North Bend Rotary Club's Legacy Project. Developed in partnership with the Rotary Club, Coos County Airport District, and the local community, the master plan transforms a well-loved but underinvested neighborhood park into a vibrant regional destination that celebrates the unique character of Oregon's South Coast. Grounded in extensive ecological, historical, and cultural research, the plan balances restored coastal landscapes with flexible recreation, accessible trails, community gathering spaces, play, athletics, and environmental education to create a park that serves residents of all ages and abilities.
The planning process was as important as the final design. Through three rounds of public engagement, interactive workshops, on-site events, and community surveys, residents helped shape every stage of the master plan—from identifying shared values to evaluating alternative concepts and refining the preferred vision. The resulting document provides more than a conceptual plan; it serves as a practical roadmap for fundraising, grant applications, and phased implementation, giving the community a clear path toward realizing a park that reflects North Bend's resilience, strengthens its connection to place, and supports future generations.
