Blue Moon Fund

Location: Charlottesville, VA | Architect: Stoneking von Storch Architects | Client: Blue Moon Fund

Nestled between a historic residential enclave and the industrial Warehouse District of Charlottesville, the Blue Moon garden mediates the complex surrounding environment while bringing awareness to the Fund’s mission of building human & natural resilience in a changing world ecosystem. The garden’s restrained material palette of concrete, metal, wood & stone is organized by site walls and linear boardwalk, linking the rear parking to the newly renovated interiors of the building’s lower level. Along the boardwalk, stormwater treatment and local plant ecology define the educational garden experience. Visitors pass through a series of rain gardens, river birch grove, demonstration meadow and terraced perennial beds.

As an Associate with Nelson Byrd Woltz, Tommy Solomon was project manager and design lead for this project.
